about
hello - my name is samara. i'm a
digital artist based in the chicagoland area. my work focuses on dark and fantastical subjects, the general relationship between humanity and animality, and my own personal relationship with my femininity and disability. i love to delve into fantasy and mythos, creating work that feels dreamlike, ephemeral - fleeting, like the last of the bugs in fall. my work is inspired by folklore, the old masters, and classic literature, as well as illuminated manuscripts and medieval tapestries. through ornate illustration and a smidge of magic, i aim to create work like something you'd find in an old storybook - nostalgic, charming, sometimes somewhat off-putting - my hope is that you'll step into the fairy circle with me and be whisked away to somewhere new.if i'm not drawing, i'm probably taking a nap.
i love to wander beneath old-growth forests, comb the shelves of my local library, and brew myself brimming mugs of vanilla earl grey. my favorite things are unicorns, art history, vintage plushies, lace, and bats.
